How to Reset a Tire Pressure Light

 Toyota tire

Did you catch a glimpse of your TPMS light on? Typically, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) engages when your tires are deflating. If this light appears after you’ve inflated your vehicle’s tires, or if there is a flashing tire pressure light, then you will need to reset it. Learn how to reset a tire pressure light with Triangle Toyota de San Juan. And remember, if you have any trouble, you can always bring your vehicle to our service center.

TPMS Light On: What to Do

After you properly inflate your tires, the tire pressure light should disappear on its own. However, if your TPMS light on, try the following instructions on how to reset a tire pressure light. If one option doesn’t work, then move on to the next one, and so on.

  • Drive at or above 50 mph on a Guaynabo highway to reset the sensor. The next time you start your car, the light should no longer be ignited.
  • When parked, turn the key to the “On” position, but don’t start the car. Press and hold the TPMS reset button until you see a flashing tire pressure light (at least three times), and then release the button. Now, start the car, and wait for the sensor to refresh. Note: The TPMS reset button is usually located beneath the steering wheel. Consult your owner’s manual if you can’t find it.
  • Inflate all tires (including the spare) to 3 PSI over their recommended air pressure. Then, deflate them completely. Once they are all deflated, inflate them again, this time to their recommended air pressure.
  • Make sure your vehicle is off and cooled down. Using a wrench, disconnect the positive battery cable. Then, turn on the car and honk the horn for about three seconds to discharge any power still stored in the vehicle. Reconnect the battery, and check whether the TPMS light is on.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

A flashing tire pressure light often indicates that the battery used by tire pressure sensors needs to be replaced. However, it may also indicate a problem with one of the sensors. If you’re unsure why you’ve encountered a flashing tire pressure light, then you can make a service appointment with Triangle Toyota de San Juan near Bayamon for guidance.
